More than 11,000 people have been killed and tens of thousands injured after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on Monday. The loss of life is devastating and in addition to the loss of human lives, thousands of buildings have collapsed and freezing temperatures have made it difficult for search and rescue missions.
Greece, Libya, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Poland, Mexico and Germany, as well as many other countries, have sent teams of rescue workers, doctors, firefighters, structural engineers and rescue dogs to aid in the mission.
@Marilynbash comments, “Bless these four-footed heroes. Their noses and ears are like magic. So many lives and bodies will be found. . Thank you Germany.” @MrPizzaMarlon adds, “Bless these dogs and their handlers. May they find the missing children.” @Richardquickii comments, “The race is truly on for survivors. All the dogs have to do is signal to their handlers where to dig, and they can search the next location, while digging crews come in to excavate people out. With shock and the low temperatures the clock is ticking for hypothermia.”
